What’s in it for me?
The purpose of the ArtView Guide to American Artists is to provide you with a convenient link to artists all around the country. With its slide show feature, it’s a very efficient way for you to see a lot of art, then, with one click, to have access to all the artist’s information and a means of direct communication.
How does the site work?
There are two ways to find what you’re looking for. You can either search or browse. Our search features allow you to search for an artist by name, or to search for art by both medium and general subject.
You can browse through our database of art images several ways. From the home page, you can click on the ArtView logo in the upper left corner to randomly cycle through the art database. Each successive click will display a new set of images on the home page. This is essentially a slide show. If you want to find the artist for any image, click on the image itself to instantly display that artist’s listing. Once there, you can view more images by the artist and see all the artist’s information.
Images are displayed on various types of pages in the Guide. Any time you see an image, you can click on it to go to the artist’s listing. Also, each time a page with images is viewed or recycled, a different set of images from the database is displayed.
You can bookmark the site (add it to your favorites list in your browser) by selecting “Bookmark” on the main menu bar. This will make it convenient for your to make return visits to the Guide.
You can also email the Web address for the Guide to a friend by selecting “Tell a Friend” from the main menu bar. This displays an email form with a space for adding a comment before sending the message to your friend.
How do I contact an artist?
Each listing contains information about the artist, including contact information. For privacy and security reasons, an artist may choose not to enter a home address or a phone number. In most cases, there is a fax number and/or an email address.
Because of all the unsolicited email (spam) on the Internet, communicating via fax may be more reliable. If you don’t get a response to an email, try again, as your original message may have been lost in the sea of spam we all receive every day. You may also want to use the Subject field in your email message to differentiate your message from all the spam. For example, you could type something like, “I’D LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YOUR ART.”
What about download speed?
Our design philosophy for the Guide is to display artist’s images at every opportunity. Part of this philosophy is to make sure the art is not upstaged by fancy page design or glitzy graphics, both of which substantially slow down the viewing process. By employing simple page design and a plain, white background, download speeds are maximized.
How do I contact you or provide feedback?
There is visitor feedback form on our Contact page (on the main menu bar), which also contains all of our contact information. We welcome any comments, suggestions or complaints you may have. Your feedback is the most important input we can have for our ongoing efforts to improve our design and performance.

Tell me more about being visible in the search engines.
Quite frankly, the main benefit of being listed in the Guide is the exposure you’ll get in the major Internet search engines. The dirty little secret of the Internet is that very few web developers can take the time to keep you visible in the top Internet search engines. It’s a complicated, time-consuming task, requiring a staff of experts dedicated solely to this purpose.
Most web developers just can’t devote the resources necessary for good engine management. By contrast, the Guide has a full time staff dedicated to this task. See our section on How To Be Found On The Internet to learn why when someone says, “I’ve submitted your site to all the search engines” it doesn’t even come close to cutting it. If someone is trying to find you and they type your name in a Google search box, wouldn’t it be nice if your name came up and, with one click, they could land on your listing in the Guide?
How are the images randomized for display on the home page?
A very important feature of your listing in the Guide is your exposure on the Guide’s home page. Each of your images is randomly displayed from the Guide’s art database. If a visitor clicks on one of your images, your listing will be immediately displayed. We know that visitors love to view images. With the Guide’s home page slide show feature, they can click away to their heart’s content. Each click displays another set of images on the home page. With a large number of visitors simultaneously viewing and clicking on the Guide’s home page, your images will have a very high level of exposure.
How much does a listing cost and what are my billing options?
A listing in the Guide costs $9.95 per month. It includes all the display and content management features discussed above AND it includes search engine management, so you will be easily found on the Internet.
You can choose between two billing options, as follows:
1) You may choose to receive a monthly charge on your credit card of $9.95, or
2) You may choose to make an annual payment of $99.95 by either credit card or by check.
What about email?
Your listing in the Guide includes a feature which allows visitors to easily contact you with an email message. When they press the Send button, the message is forwarded to your existing email service. Outgoing email goes through your existing email service.
If I already have a website, how will my listing in the Guide help me?
If you already have a website, it will benefit directly from your listing in the Guide. The reason is that search engines will automatically follow the link from the Guide to your site, giving you even more online visibility! This level of search engine exposure for personal websites is nearly impossible to accomplish on your own, but it’s included with your listing in the Guide.
What if I want to display more than five images?
In addition to the Guide, ArtView offers several levels of website products. These start at 25 images and go up from there. In addition to more capacity, you have the option of your own domain name. You also have the option of uploading your own custom graphic in the title area. Finally, if you upgrade to an ArtView Website, you will retain your listing in the Guide for free. This, of course, doubles your visibility in the major search engines. ArtView Websites have all the same content management features as the Guide, which means you’re in complete and direct control of all of your own content.
